Domestic Violence 101
Statistics show that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be affected by domestic violence in their lifetime. This training is designed to give an in-depth look into domestic violence, the various forms it can take and the red flags medical practitioners can identify while working with their patients. We want to help bring understanding as to why victims often stay with their abusers and the role the healthcare provider can play in the process. The training will have us examine the cycle of violence and how the cycle can be broken. Ultimately the objective is to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary resources to provide to their patients when domestic violence has been identified or suspected. Veronica Stephens is the Community Education Specialist for Laura’s House; providing domestic violence education presentations and resources to non-profit agencies, first responders, corporations, hair salons and governmental agencies. Formerly the President of Action Force Network, Veronica created and developed human trafficking curriculum and presentations with topics including: Links Between Homelessness and Human Trafficking, Protecting Children in a Digital Age, Path from Pornography to Sexual Violence and Links Between Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking. She has been endorsed as an outstanding educator by Newport Beach Deputy Chief of Police for in-class instruction. She authored her first book, "Boxes of Secrets - A gripping true account of overcoming sexual abuse in a 'perfect' Christian home", which was re-published by Tate Publishing in 2015. In addition to her countless radio, print and TV interviews, Veronica’s story of survival and work with victims was featured on an international TV program impacting over 30 million viewers around the world. |
